EO South Florida has always believed that the right relationship at the right time can change the trajectory of an entrepreneur's life. This program makes that happen — with structure, accountability, and a platform that keeps every mentorship moving forward.
An EO member since 2018 with 30+ years leading SherlockTalent, Inc. and three decades of mentoring and advising youth and professionals in career development.
Alex Funkhouser is the CEO of SherlockTalent, Inc. — a Miami Beach staffing and recruiting firm he has successfully led since the 1990s — and the founder of GetMyInterns.org. He holds an International MBA from Nyenrode University and a B.S. from Washington University in St. Louis.
The GetMyInterns platform came directly from 30 years of hands-on mentoring. After joining the Miami NAF advisory board more than 15 years ago, Alex began placing students into internships one at a time. That work revealed the operational complexity keeping work-based learning from scaling — so he built the platform to systematize it: job matching, approvals, time tracking, evaluations, reporting, and program oversight in one closed-loop system.
The result helped Miami-Dade grow from dozens of high school internships to thousands annually. The platform now supports districts nationwide — Miami-Dade, Broward, CCISD Houston, and WECHS New Orleans — and serves employer networks including the South Florida CIO Council as a dedicated technology industry vertical.
As EO Mentorship Committee Chair, Alex leads the platform launch — overseeing the matching process, supporting mentor and mentee pairs throughout the year, and building toward a program the committee fully owns. After the pilot, the EO South Florida Mentorship Committee takes over full responsibility for the program, with the platform and playbook already proven and in place.
GetMyInterns.org has been connecting students, interns, and mentors with employers and mentors across South Florida since 2015. The EO Mentorship Program runs on the same platform — purpose-built for structured relationships that produce measurable outcomes.
"GetMyInterns has revolutionized how we manage and place our students in internships. Each season, we see thousands of our students embarking on journeys that not only enhance their skills but also align perfectly with their career aspirations."
Dr. Lupe Diaz — Director, Miami-Dade Public Schools Department of Career Technical EducationGetMyInterns.org partners with public school districts and employer networks to bridge the gap between education and the workforce. The platform is live across Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Broward County Public Schools, CCISD Houston, and WECHS New Orleans — with each district running its own branded instance managing employer relationships and student placements at scale.
The platform also powers the South Florida CIO Council — a dedicated industry vertical for the technology sector, connecting the region's top technology executives with the next generation of IT talent. The CIO Council instance represents the platform's vertical expansion model: closed-network, industry-specific, and purpose-built for the unique talent pipeline needs of South Florida's technology community.
In June 2026, Alex Funkhouser and Dr. Lupe Diaz of Miami-Dade CTE will present the Workforce Flywheel model at NAF Next — sharing how districts can scale employer partnerships and mentorships using a repeatable four-step Partner Ladder: career talks, structured mentorships, micro-internships, and full internships. The same flywheel that built Miami's program now powers EO South Florida's.
For EO South Florida, this means the chapter gets a professionally run, continuously operating mentorship program without adding administrative overhead to any board member or volunteer. The platform is already built. The team is already here.
The Entrepreneurs' Organization South Florida chapter is part of a global network of 16,000+ business owners across 61 countries — united by a commitment to learning through shared experience.
EO South Florida is one of the most active chapters in the Entrepreneurs' Organization global network — a community built by and for business owners who have reached significant revenue milestones and want to keep growing, learning, and giving back.
The chapter's mentorship program extends EO's reach beyond its membership — opening access to Aspiring Entrepreneurs and EO Accelerators who represent the next wave of South Florida's entrepreneurial ecosystem. Every mentorship relationship is an investment in the region's future, and in the strength of the EO community that creates it.
